Semi-Lagrangian Exponential Integration with application to the rotating shallow water equations

This paper presents a novel way to time integrate partial differential equations with non-linear advection and a stiff linear operator as it is the case for atmospheric simulations.

Here, the authors Prof. Dr. Pedro S. Peixoto (University of Sao Paulo) and Dr. Martin Schreiber (Technical University of Munich) research the combination of an exponential integration technique and semi-Lagrangian methods.

The results reveal, that this novel time integration method allows significantly larger time step sizes compared to standard exponential time integration.
